highland action groups page

The Highland Action Group will look at what work needs doing across the whole of the Highlands. The Local Action Group looks at what is needed in your own local area. This will be different in each of the different areas of Highland.

There are some things that need to change and are important to everyone, no matter where they live in Highland. Some of the things people have talked about include:-

Bullying

People would like us to do some work to help stop the bullying and harassment that cause so much unhappiness.

Disability Awareness Training

Judgement    Laws

We are looking into training people about how adults with learning disabilities should be treated.  Health & Happiness along with People 1st recently worked with The Procurator Fiscals Office in Inverness.   We had a 'dummy' day in court and this highlighted the issues that face experts.  This was very successful and we are delighted to say that The Fiscal's Office received an award from the Scottish Executive in recognition of the work done.

Campaigning

There is still a lot of work to be done on the rights of people with learning disabilities.

People with learning disabilities need information that is easy to read, so they can be included in what everyone else is told. One of the ways in which Health & Happiness work is to use graphics and photographs.  It will not always be possible to make sure everyone understand.  We try to find a balance to suit many different people.  Experts also feel that they are being included if information is being made more accessible.  If you would like more information on accessible information or advice and help, please phone Linda.

We are also currently working with People 1st and the University of Stirling.  We are working together with experts to produce training for first and third year student nurses.  This is a huge opportunity and again it shows that people are listening and looking at ways to improve services.
